Images on the monitor screen this distorted

Hallo everybody.

I have a screen image problem that distorted and totally lock on Ubuntu 15:10 Mate (32-bits) using Kernel 4.2
This problem was not happening in Ubuntu Mate 15:04 to 3:19 Kernel

How to install Ubuntu Kernel 3:19 in 15:10 Mate?
In order to keep the system stable again.

Thank you.

Hi Kiko,

We have a brand new one today, another point version of 4.2.0-30 (version 4.2.0-30.35 is being upgraded to version 4.2.0-30.36). Which one are you having trouble with? :relaxed:

Hi,
Versions with problems are:
4.2.0-16-generic, 4.2.0-17-generic, 4.2.0-18-generic, 4.2.0-22-generic

Because of this problem could not update Ubuntu Mate, because after five minutes with the computer on the screen is frozen.
I can only return to restarting the computer system.

I managed to solve the problem.
When Ubuntu Mate was in the Login screen,
I went into a virtual console (ctrl + alt + f3), as had internet updated the system with the command
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Ubuntu Mate and new kernel has been updated.

Who knows with this tip can help other people.

Hello guys.
I managed to solve the update, but the problem of image distortion continues.
The problem is when I open Firefox after a few minutes the picture is distorted, as in the image below.

When using other programs this problem does not happen.

What kind of graphics are you running? In terminal…

Code:

inxi -G

the command output is this:

Graphics: Card: Intel 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller
Display Server: X.Org 1.17.2 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
Resolution: [email protected]
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel 945G x86/MMX/SSE2
GLX Version: 1.4 Mesa 11.0.2

Looks like a bug :frowning:

Try switching to compiz or compton.

The Bug is really equal.

In Mate Tweak, left the option: Marco (simple desktop effects)
My PC has 2 GB of RAM and an Intel Dual-Core processor, the PC is not very powerful.

I’m doing a test.
I’m not using Firefox, and the PC did not show the distorted image problem.
I am now using the Browser Vivaldi.

Hello,

I had a same problem with Firefox.
And I decided disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox.

If you want to try:
Firefox> Menu> preferences> advanced> When available, use hardware acceleration.

In my case I realized it was after starting Firefox of course.

@Lynx I tried this tip but to no avail.

Even after Kernel update the problem continues.
Installed the Vivaldi and tested for several days and everything is working well.
Does anyone know what is the difference?

I wanted to test another window manager, Metacity, to try to solve this problem.
How do I install Metacity?

A simple way to install packages is with synaptic package manager. Synaptic is located in the welcome center.

To switch to metacity…

Code:
metacity --replace

Thank you x3xx for the tip.
First I go into Synaptic and install Metacity.
And then I go to the command that you indicated.

I did not understand the command that you indicated to serve?
Sorry for the questions, because it’s still difficult for me.

That command (metacity --replace) must be entered in terminal and will switch you to metacity.

To switch back to marco enter ‘marco --replace’.

If you want to check to be sure which window manager is running…

Code:
update-alternatives --get-selections | grep x-window-manager

There has been several mesa updates recently, try changing your software sources download location and updating again, it may help?:

@anon42388993 Thanks for the explanation, I understand now.
I will make the move to Metacity and test to see if it was all right.
@wolfman Thanks also for the tips.
I will put this topic as solved, thank you all for your attention.

Hello everyone,

After I installed Ubuntu Mate 16.04. that comes with kernel 4.4.0-21, it did not appear over the image distortion problem.

The system update has new Kernel: 4.4.0-22 and Kernel: 4.4.0-28

The system is working very well.

I hope it helps other users with the same problem, just then upgrade to a newer kernel.

Greetings.
