Migrating from Ubuntu 14.04

Hi,
I’ve been using MATE 16.04 for a little over a week in VM and have decided to make it my main OS. If I format my existing / sda1 and install MATE /, can I leave my existing /home as is and just mount it?

Hello
If you have a separate /home partition then it should not pose any problem to reuse it for the new install.
Make sure:

  • That you have a backup of your important files.
  • The size of your previous root partition is at least the minimum disk space requirement.
  • If you’re using the same user name and you have a hidden directory named “.config” in your home folder, there’s a chance that’ll screw up some things so you should rename it .config-backup prior to install.

Thanks, John. Usually I think things through just enough to decide to jump in head first w/o looking. This time I was more studious and achieved my goal in record time with minimum bad language
