[SOLVED] USB boot busybox message

I am trying to switch my Dad running Windows 10 to Mate 16.04. I’ve assisted him remotely creating a USB thumb drive using Universal USB Installer on a 8GB thumb drive. We have seen after multiple attempts at creating the thumb drive that after he selects to Try instead of Install a message on the screen is seen during the boot into Live Mate something regarding Busybox dropping to a prompt; I believe at one point we tried Install and still see the message. I can barely see the screen via a Hangouts video call on his phone so it is difficult for me to see the exact message.
Is anyone familiar with what I am talking about and why is it seen and not allowing him to boot into Live Mate?
Again this is after multiple attempts at formatting the thumb drive, re-downloading the .iso, etc. It’s very frustrating when you are trying to get someone to switch from Wincrap 10 and move to an amazing distro in Ubuntu Mate.

Hi @t3kg33k,

does your dad have a DVD drive?, maybe try it with a disk install instead of USB stick?, it won’t be the first time a USB install has failed for me!.

Are you trying to install it in a virtual box?:

Unfortunately, his DVD drive is busted.
No, install is on an old Dell from around 2008.
I may try using a different utility next time other than Universal USB Installer. Recommendations?

Hi Edward,

if your dad has Winblows 10, maybe use Unetbootin for Windblows, your dad could overwrite the USB stick and then try downloading (yet) another ISO and do it himself?.

If your dad isn’t familiar with it, here is a guide for him!:

Yep. I ended up using Unetbootin, even though that utility in the past has given me issues and Universal USB Installer has always been pretty solid.
