Unable start Firefox

Hi all,

Just installed ubuntu-mate-16.04.2-desktop-armhf-raspberry-pi.img on microSD card

I can boot up Ubuntu-Mate desktop and run Firefox. After rebooted I couldn’t start Firefox.

“Mozilla Crash Reporter” started
-> click [Restart Firefox]
restarts “Mozilla Crash Reporter”

On terminal run;
$ firefox -safe-mode
with the same result.

Please help. Thanks

Regards

Yeah, Firefox is currently broken.

There is no fix, you can only roll back and hold the version for now.

The new version of firefox (55 or above) is not competible for Rasp- Ubuntu Mate 16.04, , not properly working. The fix is to roll back to the older version. Follow the steps given below…

  1. Remove the existing firefox first :

sudo apt-get purge firefox

  1. Run following command to download firefox :

wget http://ports.ubuntu.com/pool/main/f/firefox/firefox_52.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_armhf.deb

  1. Now Install the .deb file

sudo dpkg -i firefox_52.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1_armhf.deb

  1. now launch the firefox either from terminal or Ubuntu Menu :smile:

Oh, I have this same problem too but on Parrot Linux. Same error but I have not tried safe mode yet or ArunKumar_Sap’s method. I even got Chromium instead still crashes.

P:S Parrot Linux is the same desktop interface as Ubuntu Mate.
