Update problem - Some index files failed to download

Hello everyone, I want ubuntu to tell me when updates are ready (to get xenial xerus) but I have this problem

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Thanks beforehand

Hi,

you are trying to add an old PPA which is from Ubuntu 15.10 to Ubuntu 16.04, that is why it won’t work!.

I presume you’re already running 16.04 (Xenial).

To correct, open Software & Updates and change these sources to read “xenial” instead of “wily”. Followed by a source refresh (closing the window will ask that question).

If these sources still get a 404 " failed to fetch ", it’s likely the actual source doesn’t support Xenial (16.04) yet.

I still have wily, that is why I wanted to update to xenial, but this error won't let me do it.

Hi @sakerti,

try this if you want to update:

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. In this case you could disable (or delete) the affected third party sources and try upgrading.

Excuse me, but how do it do it.

thank you for help

The easy way is to use your software sources app.

Thank you, I’ve done it and now I’m downloading the xenial packages.

Thank you all for the help.

Excellent

Since a solution has been reached, you should check it off. And if another problem should arise, you can start a new thread on the subject.
