Will it be as simple as sudo apt-get dist-upgrade or will it require a fresh install?
If you’ve installed 15.04 Beta 1 you should be able to apt-get your way to final

What about if you are running 14.04? That’s what my Mom’s computer is running.
@JohnBlood I haven’t even tested upgrading from an unofficial Ubuntu MATE 14.x to 15.04 
Maybe a little Tips and Tricks project for a brave community member? 
@Wimpy , I could give it a try later this week. Once my new drive comes in. Should I test using 14.04 or 14.10? Also, how would I go about upgrading from 14.xx to 15.04 Beta? Would I have to wait for a final release or could I use the LiveUSB to update?
To upgrade a lower numbered version of Ubuntu Mate to 15.04 using the “Something else” method:
You will still have to install all your favourite apps but your data and settings will still be intact if you follow the guide correctly!.
