A better solution for writing ISOs to USB from Windows

The UM Web site advises that Win32 Disk Imager should be used. Unfortunately, it is a poor solution because:

  • It has to be run (at least under 8.1 and 10) with elevated privileges for no good reason;
  • The UI is bad, not even automatically showing the ISO file when pointed to it (the default file type is IMG);
  • It appears to be about 6 years old.

On a look around - there are a lot of bad and/or inappropriate tools for this task - I strongly recommend that the link is replaced by one to ImageUSB because:

  • It is active;

  • It is developed by a computer forensics company (which knows what it’s doing);

  • There is a simple linear process for writing the ISO to the USB drive;

  • MD5 and SHA1 checksumming is automatic;

  • It offers some other useful tools (e.g. hard reformat or overwrite with zeros).

Thanks for the tip :slight_smile:

You can also try/use “mintstick”:
