Acer T272 touchscreen is not working with Ubuntu MATE 16.04

Hey guys,

Looking around the forums I am not seeing a solution/common problem for this monitor.
I have tried many solutions from other touch devices, but they all seem to fall short.

I have a RPI 3 setup and an Acer T272HL as a monitor. It is a touchscreen monitor but I am unable to get the touchscreen to work. The monitor works via HDMI and utilizes USB 3.0 to get a touchscreen input to the computer. I started with Raspbian and ended up getting the touchscreen to work without any other USB support (meaning keyboard and mouse had no functionality.)

using lsinput I only see my wireless Logitech keyboard shown.
lsusb shows the following:

Bus 001 Device 020: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver (keyboard)
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 2109:2811 VIA Labs, Inc. Hub (acer monitor)
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp. SMSC9512/9514 Fast Ethernet Adapter
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9514 Starndard Microsystems Corp. SMC9514 Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I am at a loss to get this working. I would hate to install a full Windows 10 machine for this one monitor, as the RPI 3 is small and convenient.

Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks guys.
