My panel is chalk full of icons.
Is there a way to make it wider and allow me to add more programs WITHOUT creating a new panel?
No. Only one row of icons per panel is the way the panel works. You need to make another panel. If you do and set its placing to the "top", it will automatically sit directly underneath your existing top panel (or directly above the bottom panel if you set its position to "bottom"). You can then add more icons to that panel.
If you make the panels have a theme where the panels have no colour gradient, but are just a plain colour instead, it will look like you have a doubled-row, single panel
