Hi together,
I would appreciate some help in keeping my windows on the sreen. I don't want to slide them out of my sight. I think it belongs to the virtual window size. But I cant't find a way to change it to my 1920x1080px.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance to our wonderful community!
If I understand your query correctly, are you looking to always keep a window on top of all the other windows... or keep it visible when switching between workspaces?
Both options are possible by right clicking the title bar (or window list on the bottom panel), and choosing "Always on Top" and "Always on Visible Workspace".
Thank you lah7 for your answer, but this is not my intention although I use it permanently.
I want to stop any window at the sides so no part of them would be unvisible.
Years ago at winxp I had a software named pitaschio who could do that.
Ah, I understand. A feature that stops windows from being dragged beyond the regions of the screen.
Unfortunately I don't know the perfect alternate, as this is down to the window manager, which can be swapped out. Ubuntu MATE uses Marco by default.
Compiz is an alternate with lots of flexibility:
sudo apt install compiz-mate compizconfig-settings-manager
Once installed, you can switch window manager using MATE Tweak . There's a config tool called CompizConfig Settings Manager which allows you to customise this window manager.
I had a look in the settings - the closest would be Snapping Windows, and setting the "Edge Resistance Distance" to 100 (the highest).
While dragging windows to the edges will increase its resistance to go beyond, they can still be forced off-screen if dragging too fast. Luckily, Compiz by default also has snapping, so you can snap applications to one of 8 edges/corners of the screen.
Thank you lah7 for your advice!
It seems to me there is no real solution available.
warm regards, tatanka
