Hey everyone first off I love what is happening with Ubuntu Mate, and it brings to life laptops that we at work would othe wise throw out. Keep up the great work… I recently switched my Father to Ubuntu Mate and wanted to share this with the community.
I wanted to bring something about Ubuntu Mate to someones attention but I am not sure it is a bug so to speak and wanted some direction.
So the long and short of it is, My father’s computer once again crashed (thanks Win 7) and I am fed up with reloading it not to mention the 2 hours of updates that follow so I told him he was switching to Ubuntu Mate. I gave him a laptop I had preloaded and asked him to take it home while I backed up his desktop at my house. He took it home actually liked it and had no trouble adding it to his wifi at home. I reloaded his desktop (dual boot just in case) and installed everything he would need. When he came to pick it up I told him to just put the usb wifi into the machine (it is far from the router and we didn’t want to run the cable for just web browsing) he said no problem… and took it home ready to work. He plugged in his dongle and the wifi icon never showed up for him to find his SSID… that threw me for a big loop… I had to come to work and install Ubuntu Mate and reproduce the problem before I figured it out… in unity in the past when the internet would go out at home I would hot spot my phone plug in a dongle and just connect … turns out if you install ubuntu mate 15.10 on a computer with no wifi card and add one later you cannot just expect it to give a user an easy click find my SSID and connect they must go into the control center network and add an ssid.
is this a bug??? for most of us no problem… for my father… one hell of a problem. Has anyone else run into this problem?
