Anyone got 2D and 3D working with an FX4500/7800GTX?

Hi, I have 3D and 2D acceleration working with a 6600 nvidia card but keep getting distorted unreadable screen when the GUI ( X?) starts if I try to use my 7800GTX (Apple BIOS patched as a FX4500).
(Card works fine in OSX of course)

If anyone has been successful with an nv47 card would really appreciate some pointers.

For now just really happy I have a fully functional 6600 so in two minds whether I am better off leaving well alone and just being grateful for that!

Many Thanks

Hi @topbanana,

what is the additional drivers tool showing you? (what driver number?):

Hi Thanks for the reply - with the 6600 (I can't see anything with the 7800 installed) absolutely nothing! - I'm not sure this works with PowerPC..?

I'm using Nouveau as there are no proprietary drivers for nvidia on Powerpc.

Hi @topbanana,

I don’t have one so cannot really help you further, maybe something for you here?:

Not your card, but this link shows it can work with nv47: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91319

A distorted screen can be the result of a phantom output. You could try disabling tv outputs for instance: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ#What_yaboot_parameters_should_I_use_for_graphics_problems.3F

There also used to be a problem with MSI interrupts, don’t know what the status of that is anymore.

Many thanks! Will get to work and report back on progress, really appreciated.

SUCCESS !!!
Finally!!
Standardupdates over the last few days have updated the kernel etc so decided
to plug my 7800GTX (BIOS Rom hacked as a FX4500) back in and boot to see
what happens and success !
Currently login screen is still garbled but if I type in my password the screen sorts itself out and works perfectly, if anyone has ideas why the login screen is affected when the initial scrolling text on bootup is fine as well as when you log in then would be grateful to hear but for now very very happy with this result.

Thanks for your help

That’s weird. Maybe Screen Definitions for a legacy monitor
