I thought it was because of my sub-optimal connection to the Internet at first but I've closed the window several times and relaunched the program from the System -> Administration menu and it just won't populate what I'm supposed to be agreeing to:
Can anyone say? xD
Cheers
Edit: That's on a fresh install of Ubuntu MATE 16.04 Beta 2 (all post-install updates done) using Marco+Compton, also tried all other options except Compiz.
Tell us what your tring to install. This looks like an agreement to install restricted packages which can (should) be done from the Mate Welcome Center. If so, this could be a AppGrid bug.
I was trying to install Clementine (Audio Player), which is the reason I installed AppGrid from the Software Boutique (I’ve now removed it because I don’t like to agree to things without knowing what they are - I’ve since installed Clementine from the command line)
Here’s everything I did since install:
- Post install update
- Firefox configuration (plugins, preferences)
- Switched to Marco + Compton
- Customized appearance a bit (Colors from Black MATE, but borders & icons from Ambiant MATE)
- Installed the Scipy Stack from the command line
- Installed Scikit-Learn from the command line
- Went to the Software boutique, section “More Software” after having browsed the Sound & Video section without finding Clementine
- Installed AppGrid, clicked the button to start it (in the software boutique) then I went like “wtf?” (That screen is what you see first thing after the program starts)
- Closed the window, went to System -> Administration -> AppGrid to relaunch it, went “wtf?” again
- Removed AppGrid from the software boutique, then reinstalled it, then went “wtf?” again.
Okay I understand what happened now.
AppGrid uses the system foreground color for the text, but it doesn't use the background color for the box.
My settings (Using Black Mate appearance) were the root cause for that.
I've switched back to the default theme and here we go:

I was about to suggest that, good catch
You may find that synaptic package manager is better suited for you. It lacks the eye candy of app-grid, but I think a better choice for advance users.
