Best DLNA or UPnP Server

Hi, I am looking for the Best dlna/upnp media server to install on my machine. I installed Plex, but it doesn’t pick up all my Video Files, tried Rygel, which worked really well, but has dropped out of selection for My Philips Media Player, so I am looking for recommendations of what everyone else uses…

Cheers!!

I use miniDLNA for my music and Plex for video.

Hi

I have used Serviio for WIN7 and i was satisfied with it, It is a cross platform client so you might want to try that one too.
Now i have a Philips HMP5000 and a shared folder on my PC.

I am looking into Serviio at the moment, I also have a HMP5000, but have been having trouble with Samba…no matter what I do, I can never seem to login to the Network Folder from the player, I am absolutely lost on what I am doing wrong…

well i had troubles with this my self but when i figured it out it is really ease. In samba create a Windows user and give him a password. Then just add a folder and assign read or write access to the user you created. Then on your Philips device search in shared folders and login with the credentials of the user you created in samba. That should do the trick.

let me know if it helped

Will certainly give it a go, forgive my ignorance, but what did you find the best way to do this was? I had previously downloaded a graphical interface for Samba, and that is where my troubles began…I am only just rediscovering the joys of Linux OS after about 12 yrs away from it, and am like a new born!

well i just installed samba GUI from the Sofware Center and then played a lot with it also my friend google helped a lot. Im new to linux too. Im on linux only for 5 years.

+1 for minidlna. It performs great

Plex uses a standard naming convention for files…adhere to it and there are no problems. Having said that Plex will pickup and play practically anything you can throw at it. Learn it…it’s well documented.

Mediatomb is another option. Like miniDLNA, but comes with a useful web interface to manage things. I used it with some success on a Raspberry Pi with a USB drive containing the music and video library.
