Can I remove the icons from a button in MATE?

I'm running a new install of Ubuntu MATE 18.04. Is there a way for me to remove the icons from some of the buttons ?

Earlier I used to run lxappearance to remove icons from buttons and menus. This is not working in 18.04, as I think MATE doesn't read the $HOME/.gtkrc-2.0 file :sweat:

The Details button has no icon, but the Close and Help buttons do :sweat_smile:

Any advice would be much appreciated :smiley:

You can remove icons from buttons by running this command:

gsettings set org.mate.interface buttons-have-icons false

There used to be an option in MATE Tweak, but it was removed. I suggested this option be added to the MATE’s Appearance settings, and the change was made, so it should arrive in a future MATE version.
