Ok so i’ve got ubuntu mate.
Samba was already installed.
I installed system-config-samba myself
I installed caja share myself
I set workgroup in config samba to same one i see on windows 10.
If i add a folder as share in either caja or config-samba i will see it in the network folder in caja so i guess that means it is broadcasting the folders over the network.
If i go into windows 10 i cannot see my samba folders at all.
I have also done “sudo smbpasswd -a (username)”
What settings can i check?
I have a funny feeling this isn’t an Ubuntu MATE issue, Windows 10 seems to be struggling with SMB shares lately.
Have you tried using the IP address to map the share on the client Windows 10 machine as opposed to the host name?
Thanks for quick reply bullet.
After an hour of trying different things thinking it was linux and then making this post i looked into windows 10 advanced sharing setting and experiment with changing the “Allow windows to manage homegroup connections” to “use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers”
Now i can see!
