Can't upgrade Ubuntu 18.04.1 to 18.10

when i try to upgrade Ubuntu MATE 18.04.1 to 18.10 using the update manager the release notes window is blank and when i click on upgrade it freezes then crashes the upgrader, at which point i can’t force quit it and have to log out, i also can’t seem to boot from a usb drive and upgrade either as the option is missing, i don’t know if it’s just my installation ( if it is, i can’t erase it as i haven’t had the money to get a big enough backup drive so i would loose alot of stuff) or if there is currently a bug or something, any help would be greatly appreciated. (I also tried a sudo do-release-upgrade but it seems to sit for a long time doing seemingly nothing so i’m at a loss)

it ended up being my internet, apparently it prefers ipv6 which cox (my isp) likes drop out for me for some reason working now

Just for the record, I’ve seen similar oddities with perfectly good internet connections. It might not just be you or your setup.

For the first six weeks after 18.04 was released, my 16.04 installation would not list it as an available upgrade. It listed 17.10 as available, but not 18.04.

I just experimented with a fresh installation of 16.04 from the 16.04.2 DVD. At first it still didn’t list 18.04 as available. It made me update 16.04 first. Then it showed 18.04.1 as available (interesting that it specifically lists the “.1”. But it did NOT list 18.10 as available. (Yes, it’s set to list any new release, not just LTS.)

But when I let it upgrade to 18.04.1, it immediately listed 18.10 as available. Weird stuff.

I did mention it as part of a bug report that I submitted earlier today.
