Feedback is offered for improvement! Never a put down!
Maybe it is the pain you feel that makes the words come out with what I perceive "negative spin" (my wife is in exactly the same boat as you) but, within a community, you need to deliver messages with "honey", not with "a stick". Those are metaphors, examples. I am not saying your comments are to that extreme, but they seem to edge in that direction, which is a turn-off for those considering where to choose to apply their limited time for "paying-it-forward".
Hi, @fixit7 and @ericmarceau . Let me humbly suggest that both of you "take a breather" from this discussion topic. I believe that both of you are well-intended, but the conversation between you two in this discussion topic apparently "heated up" and I'm not seeing an easy way to get the conversation "back on track". So, my suggestion to you both - as the title of that famous song from that "Frozen" Disney animated movie goes - is: please"Let it go!"
And to answer your question - your posts tend to bring interesting questions and return to some old solutions that may have been put behind to simmer in histories of forums like AskUbuntu
Don't be discouraged in writing posts because I know you mean well - I would recall :
I understand sometimes it gets hard to write and/or read what the problem is because in the end this is just a forum, not a phone call nor a real life conversation so there are more chances to loose track of what is being conveyed in a message and therefore a lot more chances to get angry at miscommunication
To conclude - I believe you as well as @ericmarceau mean well and I am sure if you discussed things with more non-verbal communication options (i.e. with voice tone, facial expressions) this little argument wouldn't exist
What I want to say is - before typing we should all take a deep breath and ponder over our text for a moment before replying haha
Any time you think you have a good "tip" for others to use, that may not have been published here, you are encouraged to share that knowledge with the Community under the "Tips and Tricks" category, intended for that. That is one of the main reasons for this site's existence.
The only restriction is to avoid duplication of topic under different headings, but if it is an issue deemed version-specific, then open a new topic, making that classification clear using the drop-downs, or even including it in the title.
They only ask that you try to classify/categorize with the best fit possible applicable to what you will share, in order to make it easier to find by others.
... and thank you in advance for your contributions. They will assuredly be appreciated!
One suggestion I am adding personally, if you feel that it cannot be conveyed properly in this forum's format, but in another format (i.e. PDF), then I suggest you set up a permanently accessible online account "drive" to deposit those documents and share the link here, while giving highlights of the document here as motivators to look up that document. I have set up a "Google Drive folder" for that reason.
I second the writing tips & tricks post as well ! I love reading new posts that help with getting to know your OS better and what better way to learn than from other community members that figured out how some things work and make everybody's lives easier along the way
