The title states that it is designed to show someone “How to create a bootable USB drive for Ubuntu MATE”.
When in fact the directions given are how to write image directly to a micro SD card.
Did the two become merged at some point?
The procedure is the same for both a USB flash drive and a micro-SD card (whether it’s booting a PC from an SD card or imaging the Raspberry Pi version to a micro-SD card).

Guess it seemed out of order to me because I normally use the Startup Disk Creator to create bootable thumb drives and and have only used the documented procedure to write the Raspberry Pi version to a micro SD card. But that would definitely work for both.
