16.04 beta is (1) stable as all get-out, (2) a huge (YUGE!) upgrade from GNOME 2.3, and (3) IMHO, the best distro for new users, period.
NO other DE has the MATE Welcome screen with its easy-peasy software installation. No other DE is this lightweight and also this full-featured and configurable. No other DE is this much fun to use, and just as serious a DE as any grim power user could want.
I’m seeing some glowing reviews of 16.04 beta on YouTube, and they’re well-deserved.

I couldn’t agree more! I distro hop a lot, but the rest seem to pale in comparison to Ubuntu MATE 16.04 as far as well-roundedness goes. I always end up back here.

I fresh installed the beta2 on my laptop and on my desktop: i never got an error or a problem.
Furthermore i’m proud to be a recurring stable patreon! The distro and overall the developer staff deserve all our support!
