Crash reporter can't be turned off

I’ve done fresh installs on i3 and i7 mini PCs and something keeps crashing. When I click the box to “not notify me again” it crashes again. This is happening with both 16.04 and 18.04 installs. Whatever it is, its certainly not anything I need to use as otherwise the systems work perfectly for everything I do but these modal dialog always on top popups are a PITA!

I keep sending the crash reports, but I’m not sure they ever go out. I will try to do a screen grab and post the image next time it happens.

The link is nothing but ads and useless comments from the mostly clueless. Maybe there used to be useful article there in the past.

I clicked the “Do not notify me again” box and thought I’d taken a screenshot of the error details but I can’t seem to find it. So far the second crash about not being able to disable the message hasn’t happened.

If the don’t notify took effect this time I’ll consider it solved.

I managed to do a screen grab when it happened again. I had checked the "do not notify me again" box.

Why are screen captures saved in png format? jpg is much smaller.
I had to crop it to get it to upload here.

To prevent such messages you should disable Apport:

sudo sed -i "s/enabled=1/enabled=0/" /etc/default/apport

and reboot.
