Cross Compilier from Ubuntu MATE possible?

Greetings UM family,
I have very little knowledge about making a cross compilier, but I would like one for my pi 3 so I can use my AMD64 machine also running Ubuntu MATE. Is this possible for an additional feature to be added to our 32 and 64 intel/amd UM installs maybe via UM Welcome screen?

I’m not sure exactly what you want to achieve, maybe you could elaborate a bit more?

However, I’m pretty sure such a feature, if added, won’t be added to Welcome.

Welcome is a tool designed to make it easy for people to start using their system.
It targets people who aren’t very technically minded, people coming from other Operating Systems (Windows / MacOSX) or just people who don’t want to have to resort to the command line too often.

Cross compiling is only ever done by programmers and if you’re at the point where you need to consider it you usually have the necessary expertise to do it the hard way. Therefore there’s no reason to introduce it into Welcome as it would clutter the place.

Cheers

The reason I’d like to see an offical cross compilier in the packages for UM is well, Pi’s… Reason I mentioned the Welcome app UM uses is well, easy? Drop a GNU package into a GUI, doesn’t even need to be that complex, and out on the other end comes armhf bin’s for your Raspberry Pi 2 or 3’s or any future armhf hacker board that appears that gets UM support in the future. I think the UM team are awesome peoples and how you get a nearly identical visual experience with a Pi and a intel/amd powered device makes it even more wonderful.

Second, I can’t seem to get a cross compilier built on any of my gear… various combo’s of tutorials doesn’t seem to help…

Third, it would be awesome to have tools for those that have a hard time getting their new programs over to the pi, how about a LAN/Bluetooth sync program that automatically uploads and installs your programs? Lots of easy to use and automated processees are availiable at this point. These are just a few ideas where projects can evolve to.

My major goal for myself, compile code for pi, and automate the upload so I can install it once I wake up in the morning
