CUPS Server Setup

Hi,

I’m trying to get a Ubuntu MATE 16.04.3 install to be a CUPS server. Directly attached thru USB is an HP LaserJet P1102w printer. I’d like to use it to serve out the printer because the printer’s wireless component is unreliable and the power conservation settings are too aggressive and unable to be configured. I started with the Ubuntu server guide from Canonical’s website.

The instructions for CUPS did not produce a working CUPS server. Print jobs would reach the server, and be processed, but nothing gets printed from the printer. The printer will produce local jobs sent from an interactive Ubuntu MATE login. I then went to YouTube and looked at a few videos on the subject. This one seemed promising, but it did not work at all. Submitted print jobs do not have the rights or permissions to print.

Is there anything else I could try? I’m aware that the printer is old, but it still works and we still have a need to print.

Thanks
