Customizing Mate

I am new to Ubuntu Mate. Specially, the mate desktop. Currently using Ubuntu Mate 16.04. The default UI looks boring. Please suggest me how I can customize Mate DE like changing Themes, Icon etc

Hey @Ekanto, welcome.

Try: System --> Preferences --> Look and Feel
Also : System --> Preferences --> Look and Feel–> MATE Tweak
* Then choose panel and play around with the first drop down to mess with layout.

Hi @Ekanto and welcome to the Ubuntu MATE world!
Before you try to customize your system you should install new themes. I suggest you to open the Synaptic Package Manager and search for themes or download them directly here. Some good looking themes that you could find in the Ubuntu repository are arc-theme or numix-theme, give them a try :wink:. To change the look and feel of your desktop go to Control center and then look for Appearence and MATE Tweak
