Disable Desktop Wallpaper

Well I am going to give Ubuntu another go … at least it installed this time round (18.04 LTS Beta 2).
Then I installed Mate desktop … ok thus far but I do have one irritating nagging problem:
How do I disable the [explicative suppressed] desktop wallpaper?

Hi lewis,

right click the desktop and change your wallpaper

That takes you to the same place ‘Appearances’ does and is no help.
I do not want to change the wallpaper. I want to disable it and use a solid color.

Under the ‘background’ tab there are options for Solid Color and Gradient … both are ignored.
I think I am going to use ‘Pinta’ to create a solid black jpg file and select that as my wallpaper.

Hi @Lewis_Balentine Just click on first wallpaper, default colors and blue/green and change both to black and you have no background

(if you put your mouse there it says no desktop wallpaper)

BINGO !

Thank thee

BINGO!

Thank thee

Hi Lewis,

you didn’t say you wanted no wallpaper at all, sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick.

Actually you answer was helpful. I just did not realize the first box was “empty”. Cheers.
