Does marking emails as spam accomplish anything?

Philosophy and Linux help on the same site. LOL

I use Evolution, and whenever I get spam/scam, I go to my USP's email web interface and mark it as spam in one of two ways.

First is blocking by email address or domain. If it's a particular email address I want to block, I enter that, if I want to block anything from the domain, I enter that.

The other method is by message filters.
This allows a great deal of control over what gets delivered and what gets blocked.
I can block part or all of a to, from, cc or priority, any or al of which can be specified using Any or ALL keywords.

for example, if I get spam from [email protected], with a I can narrow the blocking very specifically...

If ALL the following
From - Starts With jimmy
From - Ends With gmail.com
Action - Move To Spam

So even if jimmy changes the number, I still block him.
The result is excellent. I used to get maybe 30 or 40 spam/scam emails per week, and that's down to about 3 or 4.

I do check my spam folder on the USP's web interface about once every day or two, and if any valid, wanted email is there, I look to see why it's blocked and tweak the filters.

It's worth checking your USP's spam capabilities.

... and we've ALL seen how that is working SO well just now for a country which is best only alluded to, for fear of reprisals ...
