I have Ubuntu Mate 16.04.2-32bits installed on my laptop with the following configuration
I need to use 64bits version for my studies especially for android studio development, so is it worth to format my machine using 64bits version of Ubuntu Mate or should I stick with 32bits version ?
Last time I checked, the Android Studio was a 32-bit thing.
Also, 2 GB of ram is really pushing the boundaries, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Android Studio is coded using Java/Swing so it works on any OS both 32bits and 64bits, but Google has stopped developing Android Platform Tools for 32bits systems since v23.0.1, and now Android Studio v2.3.1 complains and fails to build because it needs Android Platform Tools above v24.0.2 which is only available as 64bits version.
I think I will postpone learning Android for now and focus on other things until I purchase new bigger RAM or get new powerful computer.
Thanks for your reply.
