Edimax ac1200 wifi 8812au dkms zesty mate 17.04 not working

I discovered the error-of-my-ways. I needed to build and install the correct driver.
it an be found at
https://edimax.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/14000065859-how-to-install-ew-7822ulc-adapter-in-linux-running-kernel-higher-than-v4-4
It appears Edimax is actively involved in keeping it’s drivers up to date.

I’m new to this forum. I’m dual booting with Linux Mint 18.2 (primary), Windows 7 and Ubuntu Mate 17.04 on a DELL laptop. The problem I’m having I can’t get this dongle to work with Ubuntu Mate. The dongle works with Linux Mint and Windows. I have rtl8812au-dkms and dkms installed and I added ndiswrapper-dkms for good measure. I’m running 4.10.0-33-generic kernel.

How do I get this dongle to work the UM?
