Feature request for cascading network places menu

Hi folks. I don’t know how feasible this is, but thought I’d make mention of it just in case.

Would it be possible in future iterations of Ubuntu Mate to make the network places menu show all connected network drives/folders as a series of cascading menus right from login, a bit similar to how the old classic Windows XP used to do it. There is little about Windows I liked, but this was one nice feature in the menu.

At the moment, I have lashed up a bash script that automatically shows all top level drives/folders in the places menu right from login. But, when I put my mouse over them, I need to then select them in order to open a separate Caja window and then navigate to any sub-folders contained therein.

This is not a major issue for me at all. But, as I said, it would, in my opinion, be a very nice feature to be able to simply cascade from the top level places menu right down to a given network-sub folder/file, all within that menu structure.

Technically feasible but it will be laggy

No worries Martin. It’s not at the top of my wish list…

A working samba is, however…
