Hi after install Mate Desktop in Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop, after login, the environment prompt the following error:
I installed the library through Synaptic, but nothing, and after install other environment with lightdm, and that resolved the issue. 
Please let us know how did you install the mate interface in Ubuntu. Maybe you did not install in properly. Thanks
