I downloaded Firefox 55 from the web and run it "outside" the system... how can I check when I can get Firefox 55 from the Software Boutique?

What version of Ubuntu MATE are you using?

I use Ubuntu Mate 17.04.

Version 55 should be available now through the standard Ubuntu repository. (See, e.g. http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/08/firefox-55-upgrade-finally-rolling-ubuntu-sure-update)
