Currently, Firefox automatically starts up each time I restart the computer.
Sometimes, I don't want this..... I've changed all the preferences, settings, etc.... that I can find to disable this, but it still happens.
Any suggestions on how to turn this off?

You don't say which version of MATE that you are running. I would look at System, Preferences, Personal, Startup Applications and see if you launch Firefox from Startup Programs (Show hidden should be checked) or from Options as in having Automatically remember running applications when logging out check-marked.
