Today I realized that every password saved in Google Chrome can be seen under “Passwords and Keys”.
Is there any way to prevent this except for not storing passwords in Chrome?

There’s probably not much you can do on Chrome’s level. An alternative would be to use a password management software like KeepassX / Keepass2 with a plugin for Chrome. Note that I haven’t tried this myself, I can’t tell if there’s the same “issue” with them.
In any case, someone would need a physical access to your PC to get to read your passwords, so is it really a concern that Chrome can display them in clear form in your profile settings?

This is a known and it is the same for Firefox. Agree with terzag. You need to store your passwords with a management software like KeepassX which you can install from the Software Boutique.
