Grub Mate theme not to my liking

I’m thinking of experimenting with the file /boot/grub/themes/ubuntu-mate/theme.txt
and also replacing some of the images located /boot/grub/themes/ubuntu-mate/

Has this been done prior ? any suggestions relating to changing grub splash

TIA
Pete

You can always experiment and suggest your proposed GRUB design changes here. I haven’t seen anyone with a custom Ubuntu MATE GRUB theme yet.

Changing it before 16.04 is unlikely, as the development has now reached UI freeze.

Thank you @lah7, I’m really interested in making it look good on my screen and not changing what’s released. I’ll be happy to post the results for others is I’m successful.

I would like to see the results :slight_smile:

I found a relatively easy way to change the splash images without messing with the file (which is actually a program).

  1. install grub2-splashimages using synaptic or command line
  2. gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub and add this line at the end
    _GRUB_BACKGROUND=/usr/share/images/grub/YOUR CHOICE.TGA
  3. then execute sudo update-grub

When you reboot you’ll see your chosen image as the background. If you want to use one of your own images png files work just as well.

I’m not certain how to do a screen capture during grub

Here’s a link about customizing grub that might interest you. I have not tried this as yet!

I managed to take 2 images using my iPhone ... I prefer the second

It may be a screen that’s only there for a few seconds, but I like it :smiley:
