Grub themes on LiveDVD

Hello,

I’m creating a liveDVD for my local LUG to handout to other groups and organizations during presentations and meetups. I have chosen to use GRUB over isolinux since it seems pretty easy to create ISOs. However, I have hit a roadblock whent trying to create a custom them for my menu choices. The tutorials, forums, and articles I have found only discuss creating themes on existing GRUB installs and not for LiveCD/DVD. Does anyone know of a guide that clearly explains how to best use themes on LiveCD/DVDs?

I have reviewed the GRUB website and have found the documentation somewhat lacking.

Quick note on this:
I have no idea how to solve your specific issue but we’ve decided to completely drop grub themes in Ubuntu MATE 17.04, the reason for this is that it would sometimes screw up the display of grub on unusual hardware configuration. We estimated that the Pure-text based interface was a better fit for this distro.

Bummer. I was hoping this just a lack of knowledge issue. I will continue to my search and post my finding if I can find anything useful.
