So i came from vanila ubuntu 14.04, i installed some package to get 5.1 sound over spdif and everything had become glitchy, windows looked very old. Anyway, i tried to restore it back and no success. I decided to reinstall ubuntu 14.04, but i cant get the flashback session to work with compiz. I finally gave up, and come accross info about ubuntu mate.
Now, i am interested in ubuntu mate because it keeps the gnome2 look, but before i pull the trigger I wa na know How stable ubuntu mate 14.04 is. Im choosing 14.04 over 15.04 because i wanna avoid upgrading, not until 16.04 lts.
Would you recommend me 14.04 lts over 15.04 given my situation? Thanks.
I have been using Ubuntu MATE 14.04 from the time of release and I’ve had absolutely no issues. Compiz and Catalyst Omega (video driver) work perfectly and the version of MATE Desktop is currently 1.8.2, the same as that in 15.04. Although it is an unofficial release, @Wimpy has backported a lot of features
I would definitely recommend it
Been using Ubuntu Mate (moved from Xubuntu). I can say that it’s rock solid… more solid than Xubuntu which typically has been the most solid distro I used over time.
Nothing has broken yet since I have been using it.
Initially i moved from ubuntu 12.04 to ubuntu 14.04 with fresh install, with my old home folder since it’s in different partition. Then at first i didn’t have any problem at all for a good month. Only after did i install driver package for intel hda, that it broke the appearance. I never understand how this happened. I ended up reinstalling the ubuntu 14.04 again but now get flashback compiz session problem, no effects work and the title window bar disappears.
I am thinking this is something to do with my home folder tht full of old config and stuff. Before i install mate 14.04, can anyone tell me what can i delete from my old home folder? Like .local .cache . Config etc…
Yep i backup everything before deleting every hidden and suspected config files in my home.
So i’ve just finished installing ubuntu mate 14.04 I came accross one of the same problems i had in ubuntu 14.04. That is when it displays login screen, my keyboard and mouse suddenly become unresponsive for maybe 25 -40 seconds. Anyone know what is happening?it didnt happend on my previous good ubuntu installation. Thanks
