Would like to know how to change the default UM 18.04 Menu button to the UM 16.04 style of “Applications - Places - System” without destroying the rest of the UM 18.04 layout?
Tried to do this from “Add to Panel” and got the default UM16.04 A-P-S buttons, but it destroyed the rest of my layout. Could not undo it so I used Timeshift and went back 1 day. This reset the layout to the default UM 18.04 that I had originally.
I don’t want to screw this up again… Be gentle.
I’m old and not a guru like I would like to be…
Thanks to all

What do you mean by “it destroyed the rest of my layout”? There should be no problem with replacing the applets by others.
Also, if you prefer the previous layout, it should be available in MATE Tweak. You can easily switch from one to another.
Hello terzag,
I mean it rearranged bars and panels… The menu bar disappeared. The panel at the bottom of the screen, the one with the 4 work spaces (on the right) moved to the top of the screen. Things like that there.
Which one is the one I want? Contemporary, Cupertino, Mutiny, Netbook, Pantheon, Redmond, or Traditional? I don’t see a preview for any of these.
Thanks
Hello @matetwo
Traditional is the one you are looking for, which was default in 16.04.

There’s no preview, you have to try them. And unless you customized the one you used, you can go back to it afterwards, it’ll be in the list (and if you did customize it, you can save it before, to get back to it later).
It’s really weird (and not normal) that panels changed like you described just by adding an applet to one.
Hello,
I used the right click “Add to Panel” Indicator Applet on the top panel bar. Believe me it really messed things up.
Thanks
Thank You ele. I will give it a try. I’ve learned to ask about things, after I screw them up! LOL
Have a great day
