I think My Wifi create issues when I install ubuntu

Hi...
I recently upgraded an Emachines computer running Windows XP to Ubuntu Mate. My WiFi isn't working. The wireless adapter is nowhere to be found. When Windows XP was installed, the Wi-Fi was functional.
