Install Brother MFC-L8850CDW Printer Driver

I upgraded my Linux MATE to Kernel Linux 5.4.0-70-generic x86_64
Kernel Linux 5.4.0-70-generic x86_64

and was no longer able to print.

How do I reinstall the printer drivers?
I went to Brothers Support page and followed the directions on how to install the drivers and it did not work, there is no option to print a test page and if I print something from any program it always prints in 2 sided mode even if I have it set to 1 sided printing. When I install through the Add printer in the printer manager it only allows me to install a generic driver(can't check mark Manufacture for the supplier of the drivers and only allows me to check mark Free software), if I try to install the Drivers for my specific printer it gives me an "There was an error during the CUPS operation:'server-error-internal-error"
If I install the recommended driver it prints but still has that problem of always printing as a 2 sided print out even when single sided print is selected.

Hello daldude

I have a Brother MFC-J6930DW. Once it is set up it works well.

[A] I had trouble setting mine up because my "network knowledge" is minimal. I had to work out the necessary network configuration on the printer itself, after that, installing it as a network printer worked.

[B] Sometimes, with some printer manufacturers, using the files provided on the website for another country helps (perhaps not all the software downloads are the same?). I have no experience of this being the case for Brother printers. Here is an alternative Brother site to try:
https://www.brother.ch/fr-ch/support/mfc-l8850cdw/downloads

[C] If you are able, post some screenshots of the installation dialogues that might help people to better understand where the problem lies.

[D] If you could open a terminal, run the following command and paste the output into a forum-post:
inxi -Fxzrs

Note - you may wish to "remove" certain information from the output that you are not comfortable sharing in a public forum - as always the choice is yours.

[E] Are you trying to use the printer connected via USB or via a network (wired or wireless)?

[F] If you are trying to use it via a network, are you confident that you have correctly set the relevant network parameters on the printer itself?

I wish you a large amount of patience until you are able to solve the problem. :slightly_smiling_face:
