I’ve got current ubuntu running on a PC. I want to put MATE on same PC and wish to do a clean install, not needing anything on ubuntu currently installed.
I made a bootable USB using Rufus and installed ubuntu-mate-16.04.4-desktop-i386.iso
I assumed that it would show a menu asking similar question that ubuntu did, such as do you want to trial. off USB or install.
What appears is; *ubuntu, Advanced options for ubuntu, and system setup.
So, I want to wipe old ubuntu completely and install MATE, from the menu that appears after rufus bootable usb menu appears, what do i select to do what i want to do?
Update: I downloaded 64bit ver and when utilizing Rufus notice the uefi block reverts so I set that to UEFI only, and it worked, installing MATE currently.
That sounds odd, it should show up with the try or install options… maybe *ubuntu
At the same time, 18.04 comes out in a few days. You may just want to wait.
Oh goody, update, I’ll wait for that and try setting up the Bootable USB with Rufus with update.
Only second time that I used Rufus so figured I messed up something but it seems so fool proof. I assumed it would work just like it did when I used Rufus with Ubuntu to wipe win10. I assume Rufus will wipe old ubuntu and install mate from scratch. I don’t need anything off old ubuntu. And thanks for response!!
any reason you installed the 32-bit version?

32bit, sorta/kind of, it’s a no more than 1 or 2 year old system, that I bought new six months ago, it did come with win10. I just assumed it would run snappier, but I don’t know for sure. Just guessing,
I don’t recommend using the 32 bit version if your machine has 64 bit capability.

Please be aware that we can’t test 32-bit version the proper way (we are testing in a vm) so you can have more problems with it. Please use the 64-bit version. Thanks
