Installing programs in other partitions

Hi,

Is it possible under UM to have the system on one partition but Programms on another?

Thanks

As far as I know, it’s not possible…

The Filesystem hierarchy standard is what’s maintained when it comes to installing programs/software on Linux. So all necessary dependencies and libraries are installed in a single common place for every program/software, hence it’s not possible to install something to another partition/hdd.

Even it’s possible, by going all the way, I don’t see how it would be possible to actually run that program normally like all the other programs since everything is linked to the FHS- the root partition( or the single common place that I just mentioned) has everything. Installing something in another partition will surely cause some sort of disproportion between the program and the whole system…

Thanks for the explanation.
