Hello All!
I've been working on a project involving the use of a Raspberry Pi 3 B and the official 7" touch screen. I'm still waiting on parts from Amazon, so I'm trying to get all my software straightened out while I wait. I have a program I would like to run that works best in full screen mode. However, It does require occasional input from a keyboard. Hooking up a keyboard is not practical, as this device might end up hanging on a wall. Is there a gesture or other touchscreen input that can open the Onboard onscreen keyboard? Having to hunt for it in the main menu is a pain, and would only work if the program were running in a window. Thanks in advance, I'm open to any ideas you folks might have!
@Kernel_Panic, When you first launch Onboard, the onscreen keyboard, it creates an icon in the notification area that lets you toggle it from visible to hidden. That works with the touchscreen on my XPS-13. Would that work for you, or are you looking for something more like a desktop launcher?
Hi!
Sorry for taking so long to reply! Thank you for pointing that out about Onboard. Turns out it has a similar behavior on Rasbian, which I may end up using instead of MATE. I'm trying to reconfigure the program I need to run so that it launches in a window that fills all but the top of the screen. that will allow the top panel to remain visible and allow the user(s) of the device to tap on it and use it with a stylus.
I won't be getting my parts for this project until Friday, so I will be playing around with it next weekend. Hopefully all will go well!
