I am using guvcview and am very happy with it.
I have 2 pictures.
One that is "unzoomed" and a "zoomed picture".
Do they look clear to you?

Given the need for visibility, it would be best that you "sized" the image capture for the maximum resolution of your screen, and display such an image at full resolution, 100% = to fullscreen.
Are you referring to sharpness?
guvcview command line option:
guvcview --resolution=${screen_width}x${screen_height}
and those values maxed out for the capabilities of the camera. As a minimum, I would try (HDTV)
guvcview --resolution=1280x720
or preferrably
guvcview --resolution=1920x1080
again, if your video camera has that capability.
I tried this.
I need more light than ever to see more clearly.
My glasses correct my vision to 20\20.
The back room light kinda washes out that room.
I forgot the next resolution.
While I am here.

Hi Andy,
That image is showing 1024x578 resolution.
Video Camera
Which video camera are you using? Make and Model?
What is the max resolution that it can generate for your video?
According to this, M$ LifeCam HD-5000 offers maximum 16:9 wide-screen 1,280x720 HD video.
Tools used
Are you using guvcview for video capture or are you using something else, and does it allow for specification of resolution?
If something else, what is the name of that utility?
What do you mean utility? I am just using guvcview.
guvcview --resolution=1280x720
This is the best the camera can do.
(You can not see them but there is a camera about 30 yards away.
There is another one to the right aimed at the area near the sign and post)
I will leave it as an exercise for you. Hint: expectation of privacy.
"guvcview" is itself a utility.
Don't know if this is possible, but can your video camera change zoom magnification on the fly while recording?
The camera itself offers 4x "digital zoom". Would it be beneficial/practical to alternate zoom setting in the same recording, namely
I am talking of doing this programmatically using your recording command, of course. "guvcview" itself does not offer options for that on the command line.
Just a thought!
I have my higher speed internet again.
And I have w3m too.
