With KDE and Gnome, I can choose more keyboard layouts, like Old Russian or Church Slavonic. How can I get these mappings and use them in Mate?
Is there a new keyboard layout method for KDE and Gnome?

Most keyboard layouts can be added / removed in MATE keyboard settings.
GNOME seems to use IBus input method framework by default.
Some languages (like Korean) may need to (install and) use a different keyboard input system, like ibus
or fcitx
.
There are ibus-
or fcitx-
packages per language that can be installed.
Then select the input system in MATE language settings and relogin / reboot.
These input systems also have their own settings to change keyboard layouts.
