Keyboard shortcuts cause desktop to freeze

Hello all…Can someone go to control center and click on keyboard shortcuts and then click on volume down. Does it freeze your desktop? If it does just ctrl alt del and then cancel it.Please let me know…thanks

Hi @lapaga, I want to make sure you’re aware what it’s supposed to do.

It should say “New shortcut…” in the right column waiting for you to press the key(s) you want to use. Yes, the desktop is not very normal until you do (or Escape to cancel).

Does this help?

I just did the CC, keyboard shortcuts, click on volume down (which was unassigned) and, yes, it froze my desktop. Please file a bug report. Thanks.

Edit: I just read Bill’s answer and consider it much the better answer.

Just for opening Keyboard Shortcuts my desktop froze! I had to close the lid and reopen so I could do something on the pc again.
Definitely some kind of bug there. I'm using Compiz btw.

Please file a bug report with your os version, video drivers and video card and video compozitor. Thanks

Yes I am aware on how the program wants to work but if you click on something and it then does not give you a way to close the program without choosing some key that you never wanted it seems like a problem. You can not choose cancel or anything other than either escaping (which it does not say to do) or choose a key you never intended to be used as a shortcut.

Oh I see now, if you click (or accidentally click like I did) on any shortcut to enter, all is frozen but the keyboard until you enter the desired shortcut or press Esc instead.

Good point. It does mention Backspace to clear but nothing about Escape. It could use something, perhaps even a cancel button.

Anyone have a real freeze now that the shortcoming is known?

To be truthful, I'm blinded by the fact I've been using this app for over a decade in Gnome2. I'm a huge keyboard navigator. Many issues persist because familiarity negates seeing things like a new user.
