Yes, I know this is my third post today!
I’ll keep it brief…
Does anyone have any recommendations for KVM software for Ubuntu MATE?
Specially here’s what I’d like:
- Something Open Source
- Has to run on an Ubuntu MATE Desktop PC & a Raspberry Pi running Ubuntu MATE
- Should be easy to install, setup, and use
- Looking for something besides Synergy
I also don’t need remote access software, since both machines sit next to each other I just want to unclutter my desk and not have 2 mice and 2 keyboards anymore!
Any ideas are welcome!

I was able to set up No Machine on both my computers, and it runs beautifully!
It didn’t dawn on me until an hour into playing around that I had actually used this software before on my Mac, iPhone and iPad a few years ago. Glad to know it’s still around!
However… This isn’t exactly what I’m looking for… What I want to be able to to is use a single mouse and keyboard to control BOTH computers. I want to be able to move the mouse from one monitor to the other. I can kind of do that with No Machine, but I need to have it’s window open on my desktop to use it. It would make sense if my RPi was in another room or somewhere else on the planet but not when I have two monitors sitting next to each other.
Eons ago I had a hardware KVM switch but it bit the dust a long time ago. It predated the era USB! I know I can get a similar device from Amazon or my local Best Buy, I just don’t have the money and I don’t want another thing to clutter up my desk!
At any rate, I do appreciate the suggestion, No Machine is a great program! But if you have any other ideas I’d love to hear them.
