Anyone else having system freeze with latest ZOOM and Umate 20.04?
Completely unusable.
I hate zoom but no choice when a need to join people that use it, as if all the other tools out there ceased to exist...
Works OK here with UM 20.04.
Basic questions, but...
Can you check your system log ?
Do you have enough RAM?
What's your video card?
16GB ram. Integrated video. Not checked log.
I found a post from the pine64 community that includes a work around for the broken app using web:
Opening a Zoom link only gives me a mostly grey page in Chromium.
- Open the Zoom-Link in Firefox. Here it will show me a "join from your browser" link.
- Copy that link and open it in Chromium.
Everything worked fine: video, audio, chat, screenshare(incl. sharing just the window of one app)
Another way is to just modify the link (which should work as well if you only have the room id).
standard Zoom-link: https://zoom.us/j/xxxxxxxxxxxxx?pwd=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
change to: https://zoom.us/wc/join/xxxxxxxxxxxxx?pwd=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Big thanks to SNAP developers for saving the day. I had to install both Snap Zoom and Simplescreenrecorder in U Mate 20.04 to work. Thanks also to "Wimpy" for not disabling Snap installs by default unlike the "other" Linux distribution. Ridiculous. Anyway, thanks again. U Mate remains my Linux Gold Standard for beginners.
