I created 3 launchers on my desktop that point to 3 differents folders in my SSD. The launchers is not created as "application", they are created as "place".
Well, all of them work from the desktop, they work even if I move them into another folder of my Home, but if I move them to the bottom o upper panel they stop to work, The error massage is "Can't open the folder /xxx/yyy. Unsupported feature."
I don't understand.
Hi, @smurf
You wrote:
I've just tested this in an Ubuntu MATE 24.04 LTS ("Noble Numbat") VM and you're right! I also get the following dialog when clicking a launcher to my Documents on the top panel (where that launcher was copied from the Desktop to the top Panel):
Error
Could not open location '/home/ricmarques/Documents'
Operation not supported[Close button]
Having said that, I did some experiments and I've found a Workaround:
Add to the Panel a "Custom Application Launcher" and, in the "Create Launcher" dialog box / window that appears, leave the "Type" dropdown list as its default value of Application and, in the "Command" textbox of that same dialog box, write caja
followed by a space followed by the location (path) of the folder. Example:
Command: caja /home/smurf/Documents
Then click the OK button of that dialog box. Now, when you click on the Launcher that you've just created on the top Panel by following the above instructions, it should correctly open the folder (that you've specified) in "Caja" (MATE desktop's default file manager / file browser / file explorer).
I hope this helps
Thank you Ricmarques, your workaround is ok.
Sometimes I get stuck in old habits and I don't look for newer solutions.
