The (seemingly) neverending issue of input layout indication in Linux/Xorg DEs…
Although it was initially filed for the 17.10 release I’ve experienced exactly the same with 18.04 beta live - see last 3 comments (I’ve chosen Russian environment in grub while booting). To which I’d like to add that clicking on the textual (which says ‘us’) indicator can easily lead to the whole desktop freezing with no apparent way to recover save switching to a tty and killing mate-panel.
It’d be sad if U-M goes gold with this sort of bug.(
It seems that fcitx is the perpetrator. Why the hell it’s even on by default?
This behavior should be a release blocker. Complex IM such as fcitx shouldn’t even be on by default for European languages. Nevermind if it breaks things like that.
