Lenovo z51-70 screen flickering on all Ubuntu 15.10 based distros

Hello,

My new pc is Lenovo Z51-70. It’s an Laptop with i3 and intel/amd hybrid card. My problem is following on all 15.10 based distros I have image tearing/flickering when whatching movies in Totem, VLC, SMPlayer. I tryed changing video outputs in players. I tryed changing drivers from open drivers to flgrx drivers. But it doesn’t helped. On the net I found that the fix is to enable tear free & disable vsync in catalyst control center but I don’t have these option in it. I’m using the latest flgrx drivers available in Ubuntu 15.10 Mate. On all 14.04 flavors there is no flickering whit open drivers except when ff is open in background with chrome is all fine. But with flgrx drivers is the same problem with flgrx drivers. How to fix this image tearing on Ubuntu 15.10 based flavors

Are you running compiz instead of marco windows manager? If not, change it to compiz in mate tweak and see if it improves things.

It doesn’t helped. It’s the same

I’m running into some trouble with my ATI equipped desktop as well, but it’s a different issue. There was a notice in the Ubuntu release notes that the current kernel and flgrx driver are not playing nicely together and it’s recommend that you use the open source driver instead.

I don’t have the flgrx driver installed, but I’m still seeing an issue where the GPU locks, screen freezes, goes black then after a few seconds, comes back again.

Fingers crossed that these issues with ATI/Radeon graphics get worked out upstream soon. Owning an older machine with an ATI card seems to become more troublesome with each release.

EDIT: I did find that vanilla Ubuntu 15.10 does not give me any graphics issues. I’m trying to figure out what the difference is.
